Justin Chatwin...an obession of mine. Love this man dearly. For those of you who don't recognize him, he was Tom Cruise's son in War of the Worlds. ...and was the only thing that made that movie bearable for me. He's quite a good actor, and nice to look at as well.

time: close to three hours, shockingly. mostly spend on the hair and painstakingly filling in the shirt.
size: 8x10
material: crappy drawing paper, mech. pencil, 2H to 2B drawing pencils.
ref: I believe this one came from imdb.com ...it's hard to find portraits of him.

Honestly, this scan doesn't do this picture justice...which seems to be the story of my dA career. Oh well. It doesn't actually look this sketched, it's worked a lot more, there are more values in his face, and he does have facial hair. But I guess it could be worse. (:
I'm going to disagree with aliendonkey and say I DO love the hair. Most people make the mistake of putting too many lights and darks in dark hair, where in the main it's actually just darkness and not much else. But you've kept the texture of it with the direction of the pencil stroke, which is really nice. It has this wet/gelled look to it, which is even harder to achieve. Love the crispness of his jaw line too.
And I think it must be a scanner-wide phenomenom, cause my scanner usually always eats all the lovely subtle shades of my pencil stuff, stuff that often makes a piece all that better when view in real life. *hands you a scanner mallet* here... try this... *grin*
Fabulous work as ever. And three hours!! Three hours! *weeps*
Well thanks for the comments on the hair...it's common knowledge that I suck at hair. But his was...well it was wet and gelled, so I'm happy that came through a bit. And it was nearly all shadow, so I was TOTALLY irritated with being unable to give it the really hairy look. If that makes sense...
And honestly, if I could do what you do...I'd be more than happy to spend more than three hours on a piece! But alas, this is all I've got. hehe...

And that movie blowed, but Chatwin was great in it. It makes me a little sad sometimes when good actors get stuck in bad movies. /:
And yea...the movie was horrible. But at least now he's gotten some more parts, so that's exciting!
